In 1988, the 4 members of a House Music band “Midara Gokoro” encountered an Acid House movement named “Second Summer of Love” while staying in London. Soon after that, the band changed their name to “Far East Acid House Quartet” and brought the Acid-Techno style into their sound. After returning to Japan, they held an outdoor Rave Party in the heart of the mountains of Nagano prefecture that is said to be the first of the kind in Japan. They also held other guerrilla live performances not only at clubs but also in warehouses, buildings under construction, and closed down schools deep in the mountains that ushered in the outdoor Rave movement. While keeping the position to be adverse to commercialism, they did continue to appear in the underground scenes in and outside of Japan, making an impact mainly to the young generation of the time called the Neo-Hippie and the Travelers. After releasing their 6 th album in 1997, the band broke up. |
